State of Get Sad Y'all

Birthday show date is set and a couple things have been booked. Waiting on paperwork to officially announce, but keep mid-October clear.
Stoked to have Bad Luck roll through Imurj this Thursday with The Bronze Age, Faster on Fire, and Hey Champ! rounding out the bill. Good friends on this show, please go out and support them.
ICYMI we announced our first Get Sad, Sing Bad: Emo Karaoke in Charlotte the other day. Goes down on 8/21 at Hattie's Tap & Tavern. I'll be at the first couple to make sure things go smoothly and this first one will be one of our publicist Cait's going away parties before she moves to Chicago, so come say hey, buy her lots of shots, and live out your emo fantasies onstage.
We announced the support for Fit For An Autopsy on 10/28 at Local 506 and it's insane: Rivers of Nihil, Lorna Shore, Dyscarnate, and our pal Kevin La Chiana's new band, All Cut Up. This will likely be the last big, promoted show we do as I shift focus to management and our monthly events, so come show some love and rage to your heart's content.

Random Music Thoughts

Went to Osheaga Festival in Montreal two weekends ago and had a blast. Pretty run-of-the-mill city festival in terms of art and organization, but the lineup was incredible and Montreal is a really dope city. If you're a festival goer, it's definitely worth a visit. Also, make sure you catch Childish Gambino this year - the production and storytelling on his show are some of the best I've experienced. Other highlights: Flume with a very avant-garde EDM performance (if there is such a thing) that included a bench grinder and destroying a printer with a sledgehammer and Tame Impala's masterful visuals.
Glad there's a new Slipknot album in the world. Great memories of this band, including an very odd meet & greet in high school and seeing them in their hometown of Des Moines on the run with Coheed. Feels appropriate to have a new effort considering the current state of our planet, happy to see them thriving again.
New Bon Iver record dropped early last week and Justin Vernon's genius drips all over it as usual. Check out my recommendation for i,i below and catch them at PNC Arena on 10/19.

Random Non-Music Thoughts

Scratched something off the ole bucket list on the way to Montreal: sleeping in an airport. Thanks to Detroit Metro Airport for having a light/sound tunnel to keep me entertained, but please turn the heat up next time.
As I mentioned above, Montreal is a wonderful city that I'd recommend to anyone. Street art in every alleyway, friendly people, reasonable prices, very walkable. They also seem to love sangria for whatever reason... even Osheaga had roaming vendors selling it. Delicious.
Watched Aquaman last night with my wife. What an awful movie. I can get past the battle with giant lobsters (crabs?) and the ridiculous emphasis on becoming the "ocean master," but you destroy hundreds of bottles of Italian wine to defeat some baddies? Nah, I'm out. It's really astounding that DC continues to make such horrible films (Chris Nolan's Batman movies excluded).
This is triggered by music industry bullshit, but throwing it in here since it's expands outside of music. There are bad people out there - in every aspect of life - that will never take responsibility for their actions and try to bury you at every opportunity. It's important to identify these individuals early on and cut that toxicity out of your life. Focus on your own path to success; it may take time, but these people will get exposed and burn out on their own.

Product Recommendation: Camelbak Crux 3L Reservoir

If you go to festivals, you probably know that having quick access to water at all times is key to remaining comfortable and healthy. You don't want to have to head to the refill stations with your tiny water bottle every hour.

Enter the Camelbak Crux 3L Reservoir.

I've been using one of these for 5+ years and I can't imagine life without it. You fill it once when you get through the gates and it provides you with water all damn day (or most of it if you're sharing with your group). I just throw mine in the laptop pocket of my backpack - it's honestly not as heavy as you'd think when full - but they have options that include a backpack if you want to consolidate. It's also very easy to clean and doesn't have a weird rubber taste like other bladders do.

**Album/EP Recommendation: i,i - Bon Iver**

I hated Bon Iver for a long time. I have friends that won't let me live it down.

But tastes change, people change, and I now love Bon Iver so much that I have lyrics from "Holocene" tattooed on my body. Whoops.

The newest effort from Justin Vernon and crew, i,i, dropped ahead of schedule last week - why? who knows, JV does what he wants - and it's already battling for the top spot in their discography IMO. Getting a lot of self-titled vibes on it, so if you're a fan of that record, I'm confident you'll love this one.

Standout tracks for me include the deceptively catchy "Hey, Ma," a track that feels very Flume-inspired - whether intentional or not - in "Jelmore," and the brass-driven "Sh'Diah."

Check out the whole record below and be sure to spin it whenever it gets cold outside - walking in the snow listening to Bon Iver is one of my favorite things to do.
